PERSONAL PROFILE
MY AIM: TO BE A PATRIOTIC INDIAN WITH CONCERN AND COMPASSION FOR MY FELLOW CITIZENS CONTRIBUTING MY MITE TO THE BETTERMENT OF SOCIETY AT LARGE TROUGH ACTIVE PERSONAL INIATIATIVE PARTICIPATION AND ENGAGEMENT.
Name: LATHA NARASIMHA MURTHY
Address for Communication and Correspondence : House no 6 Agara Village .
Husband’s name: Narasimha Murthy.
Marital Status: Married to Narasimha Murthy who is a social worker and treasurer of the Bengaluru District BJP . I have one high school going daughter .
I am a Product of Gokarnatheshwara College Mangalore and have been living in my marital home Agara for 15 years now. I was inspired into politics and service in school and college by my grandfather K. Sanjeev Reddy who was a three time MLC from Chitradurga. Having married into another political and service oriented family in Bangalore my activities got a fillip and I have been able to keep doing public service.
I believe in good governance and to this end I attended the orientation program for Corporator candidates held in Malleshwaram , I believe that just integrity and honesty cannot alone solve the woes of my people but capable governance and liaison with the government for which you need to be aware of the nuances of governmental function is the key for good urban politics and governance.
My work with the Lions organization and the women’s self help groups that I have started to enable the women to be financially independent , and self reliant are small examples of what women can do to empower society at large .
I have a vision for our ward and will elucidate it in brief:
I WANT OUR WARD TO BECOME THE BEST URBAN CONGLOMERATION IN BENGALURU.
To have a healthy and happy living space there must a happy population. Our ward has pockets of Urban Poor , disadvantaged people whose lives we can do a lot more to light up. Ensure that they have BPL cards , ensure that their housing areas get water and sanitation on priority making their lives better. Their Children need to go to the government school in Agara which needs a big upgrade and perhaps even addition of more vocational and job oriented courses. Governmental/BBMP grants used well will go a long way in providing for better education and opportunities for the underprivileged in our ward which should be a priority for all of us especially the better privileged.
Among the many initiatives what is dear to me is a clean ward, Zero Waste Management has been close to my heart for a long time and making sure that happens is going to be a big priority, taking a ZWM programme up and seeing it effectively implemented will be a prime agenda.
Water and sanitation for all is again very critical to all corners of our ward. The ward must have Kaveri water as envisaged in the BWSSB distribution plan. I will be not saying the truth if I say we will have governmental supplies of water 365 days a year . As citizens it is our duty to adopt Rain water harvesting in a big way. The corollary to this is going to be community level rain water harvesting and storm water harvesting which I think must be taken up in a war footing to supplement water supplies. BBMP must be coerced to go in for community water harvesting which will be an area of large focus for me.
Our ward was lush green farmland with trees and the quantum of trees that are lost to development has always been a cause of concern for me , my stand has been that just random afforestation or avenue planting is not enough. We have a large variety of Indigenous trees whish support bio diversity which were endemic to our area . I propose that all greening efforts must have expert consultation with urban ecologists and plan a greening program that will bring back an environment that perhaps our fore fathers had enjoyed. Parks are a common requirement of most urbanites, One needs to realise that the current park regime that is adopted is highly water intensive and maintenance intensive. I propose that we must have maximum greenery at minimum maintenance, these can be in the form of Urban Forest parks and walkways and indigenous medicinal plant gardens and Indian Heritage themed parks and boulevards that will be a cultural edifice for the children and bring back memories for our senior citizens.
What is a sore sight for all of us is our beloved Agara Kere , when my family talks of the days they enjoyed a swim or fished in Agara Kere it seems like we are cursed not to enjoy these privileges. It must be our collective endeavour to fight and bring back Agara Kere to its pristine glory , I maintain that all the water bodies in our ward must be rejuvenated trees planted around them and the Kaluves cleaned and cleared of encroachments .
The elderly and young are usually the most affected by the lack of walking spaces , my endeavour will be to ensure footpaths are built where there are none and encroachments cleared if there are on walking paths. Public transport must be encouraged our ward has seen a mushrooming of private cars and this I feel is because of inadequate public transport options , there are no Bus shelters too these deserve immediate attention.
Adoption of new technology like insulated overhead power cables , Low wattage electrical lighting for streets considering that we have a bad power situation and building a public politician police interface for a crime free society are also on top of my agenda. Our ward has high rises and as a common citizen I understand the need for fire safety . Ensuring Builders and Associations are educated on fire safety is high on my list of to do things.
Ward committees and adopting to the changing rules of urban governance will have my complete support when implemented by the government.
